Raleigh police are seeking a 60-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing a man Thursday night — the city’s first homicide of 2022.

Gary Earl Jenkins faces a charge of murder in the death of 57-year-old Clifton McClam. Jenkins had not been taken into custody as of 4 p.m. Friday.

Officers responded to a call in the 1600 block of New Bern Avenue just before 9 p.m. Thursday, according to a Raleigh Police Department news release.

They found McClam, who had been stabbed. He was taken to the hospital where he died, the release stated.

Last year, the city had 34 homicides, according to police spokesperson Laura Hourigan, up from 27 homicides the year before.

Anyone with information in Thursday’s homicide is asked to call Raleigh CrimeStoppers at 919-834-HELP or go to raleighcrimestoppers.org for text and email reporting options. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for anonymous tips that help solve cases.
