Two injured after high-speed chase leads to crash in Chapel Hill, reports say
Two people were injured early Thursday morning in a crash in Chapel Hill, reported ABC11, The News & Observer’s newsgathering partner.
The crash occurred after North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers pursued a car moving at a high speed on Interstate 40 in Durham, the news outlet reported.
The driver exited I-40 at Highway 86, running off the road and crashing on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Chapel Hill, according to ABC11.
The driver and a passenger were taken to the hospital.
The driver was in an Infiniti sedan and traveling at a speed of 133 mph at the onset of the chase, authorities told WRAL and CBS17.
The sedan was a rental car, according to ABC11.
The N&O asked Highway Patrol for more information, but its Greensboro office, which oversees Orange County, said it was unable to confirm details about the reported chase and ensuing crash.
The N&O has requested to speak with a trooper who responded to the crash.
The Chapel Hill Police Department confirmed that officers assisted with traffic control at the scene of the crash, but said further details would be released by Highway Patrol.
