Bank robberies in Raleigh, Cary and Morrisville on Tuesday were connected, police say

Four bank robberies reported across Wake County on Tuesday were related, Raleigh police have confirmed.

Officers are still searching for two suspects who were spotted near N.C. State University on Tuesday afternoon.

In a security alert, campus police said the Raleigh Police Department told them two suspects had fled on foot toward N.C. State’s Centennial Campus after a traffic stop in the parking lot of Mission Valley.

The suspects were wanted in at least one bank robbery that occurred earlier Tuesday, the alert said.

Laura Hourigan, a Raleigh police spokeswoman, confirmed two robberies occurred in Raleigh around 12:30 p.m. and 12:45 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Banks on Clark Avenue and Fairview Road.

Morrisville police said First Horizon Bank on Chapel Hill Road was also robbed Tuesday by someone whose description matched the suspects in the Raleigh robberies, according to a news release. No injuries were reported, police said.

The Raleigh robberies were related to the one in Morrisville and another the same day in Cary, Hourigan said.

Raleigh officers chased the suspects by car until they crashed a Ford Mustang on Centennial Parkway near NC State and then fled on foot, reported ABC11, The News & Observer’s newsgathering partner.

“Detectives continue to solicit the public’s help and stress that any information — even things that might seem insignificant — could help further the investigation,” Hourigan said.

Those with information have been asked to call Raleigh police at 911 or 919-831-6311, or contact NCSU police at 919-515-3000, according to the alert.

Those with information about the Morrisville roberry are asked to call investigators at 919-625-1846.
