Student at Apex Friendship Middle School hit by car while riding bike in carpool area

A child was hit by a car in Apex on Tuesday morning while riding their bike near Apex Friendship Middle School, according to the Apex Police Department.

Police say the child was struck by a car while crossing the street in the 7800 block of Humie Olive Road around 8:13 a.m. The street is shared by Apex Friendship High School and Apex Friendship Middle School.

The child is a student at the middle school and was hit in the carpool area, according to a school alert sent to parents Tuesday morning. School officials said they could not share an update on the student’s condition.

The child, whose name and age were not released, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The unidentified driver of the car remained on scene and is working with police, according to a news release.

Humie Olive Road will be closed between Evans Road and Richardson Road until the investigation is completed, the release said.
