Durham police ID 40-year-old man found shot in car on Holloway Street

Durham police have identified a man found shot to death in eastern Durham Friday night as 40-year-old Ainzargul Totakhil.

Officers found Totakhil with gunshot wounds in a car on Holloway Street near South Adams Street shortly before 11 p.m..

Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene, a news release stated.

The shooting appeared to be targeted, but as of Wednesday, police had released no details about a potential suspect or motive.

Police also did not provide information about the car Totakhil was in.

The shooting came at the end of a violent year in Durham, marking 44 shooting deaths in the city in 2022.

According to Durham police, there were 770 incidents in which a firearm was discharged in the city, with a total of 233 people shot.
