Man found dead in Chapel Hill was from Durham. Police ask for help finding his killer.
Chapel Hill police have identified a Durham man who was found dead last week in the 600 block of North Heritage Circle.
Marcus Anthony Smith, 24, of Durham, was found near the Chapel Ridge apartment complex around 2:30 p.m. Thursday after officers responded to a 911 call about the shooting, police have said.
Smith was found dead at the scene, and police are continuing to investigate, they said in a release.
It was the second homicide in a week for Chapel Hill police, who also found an Oxford man — K’son Lamoriquia Thorpe, 27 — dead on Jan. 9 in the parking lot of a public housing apartment complex on South Estes Drive Extension.
Thorpe’s body was discovered after someone in the area called 911 around 10:30 p.m. Monday, police said.
Police have not released any additional details about Thorpe’s death or possible suspects.
