Durham police identify 23-year-old man fatally shot near Hillsborough Road in Durham

Durham police are searching for a suspect after a 23-year-old man was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon.

Officers responded to a shooting on the 3600 block of Hillsborough Road after 5 p.m on Tuesday evening.

They found a man, identified Wednesday as Mario Canseco Lopez, who had been shot. He was taken to the Duke Hospital emergency room where he was pronounced dead, Durham police said.

Police said this shooting does not appear to be random.

The shooting took place in a busy area near the intersection of Cole Mill Road, home to a Cookout, Domino’s Pizza and laundromat. A gray car was seen crashed in the parking lot of the laundromat with a door open. The area was temporarily closed as police investigated the scene.

On Wednesday afternoon, police identified Lopez and released images of a potential suspect. Police provided a photo of an armed man wearing light blue jeans, a black hooded jack and black face mask.
