A former Wake County school teacher has been accused of taking indecent liberties with a student.

Almando Brown Kilpatrick, 27, of Knightdale, is charged with a felony count of attempting a sex act with a student and another felony count of indecent liberties with the same student.

He taught Physical Education and was an assistant football coach at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School, according to Sara Clark, a Wake County Public School System spokesperson.

The alleged incidents occurred on Jan. 25 of this year, arrest documents show.

Brown was arrested Monday and is being held in jail on $50,000 bail, which a judge declined to lower to $15,000 during a court appearance Tuesday, ABC11 reported.

His lawyer, Christopher Detwiler, told the judge that Brown maintains he is innocent, has an infant and is not a flight risk, ABC11 reported.

Brown is no longer employed by the school as of last Friday, Clark confirmed.

He was previously listed on the WCPSS’s website as a physical education teacher at the school. He was taken off the school’s online staff directory on Tuesday.

School principal’s letter

Clark shared a letter from Southeast Raleigh principal George Harden Jr. to parents.

“We learned today that former teacher, Almando Brown, has been arrested and charged with solicitation of a minor and attempted sexual offense with a student,” the letter stated.

“While privacy laws prevent me from providing much information about the situation, I can share that the teacher has resigned, and he will not be returning to our campus or any other WCPSS school at this time,” it stated. “Our employees are held to the highest standards. The district does not tolerate actions that are not aligned with these standards.”

Brown is due back in court on April 11, ABC11 reported.
