Man found dead from self-inflicted gunshot wound after search in Raleigh, police say

Police found a man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after searching for a man with a gun in northwest Raleigh on Monday afternoon.

The Raleigh Police Department told people in the 3400 block of West Millbrook Road near Glenwood Avenue to stay inside as officers conducted the search.

Police initially responded to a call of a man who had reportedly fired a gun near businesses and homes at around 1:35 p.m. There were no injuries associated with that call.

People in the Pine Springs Road, Still Pines Drive and Pleasant Pines Townhomes areas were told to “go inside immediately” at around 2:30 p.m., according to a police news alert. Roads in the area were partially blocked off.

The man fled when officers arrived, eventually running into the woods.

A single gunshot was heard, and then officers found the man fatally shot.

Police will not be releasing the dead man’s name, police spokesman Lt. Jason Borneo told The News & Observer.
