2nd suspect charged in fatal shooting of man in Raleigh. 14-year-old also charged.

Police have charged a second suspect with murder in the death of a 24-year-old man on Feb. 5

J’marree Andrel Smith, 20, has been arrested in connection with the death of Amari Goss, the Raleigh Police Department said Saturday.

Police previously charged a 14-year-old with murder in the fatal shooting on Poole Road. They have not released that suspect’s name because of their age, but that could change as the case proceeds.

North Carolina law defines anyone under 18 as a juvenile, but cases involving juveniles can be moved to adult court through a transfer hearing. If a juvenile court judge finds probable cause that someone 13 or older committed first-degree murder or another Class A felony, however, the case must be transferred to adult court without a transfer hearing, according to state law.

Goss is survived by his parents and six siblings, according to an online obituary.

Police ask anyone with information that might assist investigators to visit Crimestoppers at www.p3tips.com/89 for anonymous reporting options or call 919-996-1193.
