2 more N.C. Central students arrested and charged in campus shooting

Two more students have been charged in connection with a shooting on the N.C. Central University campus this month, the university announced Friday.

Shazyah Bell and Paris Amos have each been charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, according to a news release.

“Additional arrests related to this incident are forthcoming, and further details will be provided to the campus community as they become available,” the release stated. Anyone with information can call campus police at 919-530-5397.

The two arrests follow the earlier arrest of another student in the April 2 shooting at Lawson Street Residence Hall.

Eric Randall was charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery and conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon, the university said Wednesday.

The student who was shot was taken to Duke University Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries and released.

The university has not charged anyone with the actual shooting or said what happened in the dorm that night.

The shooting prompted an NCCU Eagle Alert, which said there was an “armed and dangerous person” on Lawson Street.

The campus was on lockdown for almost three hours, until about 12:50 a.m. on April 3, when campus police Chief Damon Williams said there no longer was any threat to the community.

The night of the shooting

On the night of the shooting, police responded to a call about 10:15 p.m. about possible gunshots at the dorm near Fayetteville Street, The N&O previously reported.

Emergency Medical Services workers on campus for an unrelated medical call “rendered aid to one person who sustained one or more gunshot wounds,” the university said.

The following day, the university said they had learned “physical identities of the suspects..”

Residence halls on campus require card-key entry at all hours, said Stephen W. Fusi, chief brand officer for the university, in an email last week.
