Teen charged with murder of 13-year-old girl found shot in Raleigh
Raleigh police said they have charged a 16-year-old with murder after a 13-year-old girl was found dead early April 22, of an apparent gunshot wound at a North Raleigh apartment complex, police said.
Police said the teen has been charged with murder on a juvenile petition and taken into custody. Raleigh police didn’t provide additional details about the shooting.
Asked if the teen would be charged as an adult, Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman said the case is under review.
Officers responded at 2:36 a.m. to a report of a person shot in the 1900 block of North Hills Drive, just off the I-440 Beltline near its intersection with Glenwood Avenue.
The girl’s name will not be released due to her age, Lt. Jason Borneo said in a news release.
WRAL and ABC11, The News & Observer’s newsgathering partner, identified her as Mykia Daniel. WRAL said she was shot at The Trails of North Hills Apartments.

Kimberly Muktarian, a family friend and advocate, said the girl had been struggling and that her mother had repeatedly sought help from Wake County, though she did not say what kind of help.
The family did not know why the girl had been out so late, said Muktarian, president of Save Our Sons consulting group.
“Certainly a lot of questions and devastation, to say the least,” she said. “She is just one that fell through the cracks.”
