16-year-old arrested in fatal shooting of another teen on South Roxboro St. in Durham

Durham police have charged a 16-year-old with murder and conspiracy to commit murder in a shooting that left another teenager dead late Tuesday night.

Neither teen’s name will be released by police due to their ages. Officers responded around 11 p.m. to the 2500 block of South Roxboro Street where they found a 17-year-old who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not provided any other details in the killing.

As of Monday, 215 people had been shot this year in Durham. That was up from 198 people shot by the same time last year but down from 232 the year before that.

More people shot this year have survived, police statistics show.

Thirty-two people shot this year have died, compared to 39 and 38 people who were fatally shot by the same time in the two prior years.

At least 11 people shot this year have been 16 or 17 years old, including Tuesday’s victim.
