Almost a month after a Zebulon man was found fatally shot in his brother’s front yard, police have arrested a man in his killing.

Jason Linwood Hedges, 43, is charged with murder in the Nov. 28 death of Robert Cummings, 55.

Cummings was found unresponsive about 1:30 a.m. in his front yard on West Barbee Street and later died at a local hospital, police said.

Hedges was arrested at his East Vance Street home, about a mile from where Cummings’ body was found, at 2 p.m. Friday, according to a news release.

Cummings’ son said the family believes the shooting was tied to an argument between Cummings, Cummings’ brother and a group of people outside the home, according to ABC11, The News & Observer’s newsgathering partner.

Police said they believe the shooting was an isolated incident.

A GoFundMe seeking $2,000 for Cummings’ funeral expenses had raised $360 as of Friday afternoon.

Hedges is being held in the Wake County Detention Center without bail, records show.
