Suspect arrested in Hillsborough double murder. Teen and young man were found shot in car.

A 19-year-old Hillsborough man was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder in the fatal shooting of two people Dec. 29 off South Churton Street.

Kenyon Raishaun Cameron was arrested during a traffic stop on Orange Grove Road and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, the town said in a news release. He is being held without bail in the Orange County jail.

Cameron is accused of shooting 16-year-old Zikera Wardlow, who lived in Hillsborough, and De’Anthony Letrelle Morgan, 20, from La Grange, North Carolina.

Police found their bodies at the end of Cardinal Drive near Interstate 85 while responding to a reported gunshot injury at 6:40 a.m. Dec. 30.

Several evidence markers and yellow tape surrounded a Dodge Charger during the initial investigation. Police said the victims appeared to have been killed inside the car.

The girl’s family said Wardlow was on the girls basketball team at Discovery Charter School in Durham, according to ABC11, The News & Observer’s newsgathering partner. She attended Cedar Ridge High School during the 2023-24 school year and also played basketball there.

Morgan’s father, Rico McDowell, said his son was a loving uncle to his nephews and a niece, who was born less than two weeks before his death. His mother, Pamela Stevenson, said he worked at Sanderson Farms and Amazon to save money for college and was enrolled in community college in Lenoir County to study engineering.

Last week, investigators appealed to the public for help. They are continuing to follow up on tips and leads, according to Wednesday’s news release.
