Police release name of man shot and killed Saturday in northern Durham

Durham police  are investigating a deadly shooting after a man died in an apartment complex parking lot Saturday morning.

Durham police on Monday identified a man shot to death in an apartment complex parking lot Saturday morning as 40-year-old Marques Valntae Johnson of Durham..

Around 6:21 a.m. officers responded to a report of man with a gunshot wound on the 1400 block of New Castle Road. The parking lot is an apartment complex in northern Durham off Stadium drive.Police said the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident but didn’t release any other information.

As of Jan. 18, the most recent statistics available, there had been nine people shot in Durham, two of them fatally, this year.
