A teenager arrested this week has been charged in two armed carjackings this month on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill and in downtown Carrboro.

The name of the 16-year-old male, who is from Durham, was not released because of his age, the Carrboro Police Department said in a news release announcing the arrest.

The teen is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon in an April 2 incident on Roberson Street in Carrboro.

The victim in that case reported being approached by a man with a firearm while sitting in their car around 5 p.m. in a private parking lot. The suspect drove away in the car, a 2008 BMW, police said.

On April 5, a UNC student told police they were approached by a man in the parking deck at Carolina Square on West Franklin Street around 12:43 a.m. The suspect stole the student’s vehicle at gunpoint and fled, police said.

The teen has been charged in that case with robbery with a dangerous weapon and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Both investigations are continuing, and more arrests and charges are possible, Carrboro police said.
