Baby and mother found safe after reported kidnapping in Garner. 2 people arrested

A man and a woman have been arrested in connection with an alleged armed kidnapping Monday night that triggered an Amber Alert, Garner Police said.

Police said Tuesday night they had arrested Paola Duran Duran, 25, and Miguel Angel Duran Duran, 23. Each are charged with first-degree kidnapping and one count of second-degree kidnapping, Garner Police said.

Authorities said they had been searching for three suspects — two men and a woman — after a woman and her young child was taken at gunpoint. Police did not provide additional details about the suspects or their search for a third person.

Police were called to a home on Buck Branch Drive Monday night after three people, masked and armed, broke in and demanded $1 million from Eliuth Alejandro Martinez, police said. The call came in at 10:53 p.m. Monday, police told The N&O.

When Martinez refused, the trio restrained him with duct tape and took his wife, Alondra Michelle Benitez De Jesus, 26, and their 13-month-old daughter in a black Nissan Altima, the release said.

Both were found safe and unharmed in Wake Forest Tuesday morning, police said.

Shortly after 7 a.m., a Wake Forest resident called 911 to report a woman and baby had come to her home, according to the release. The woman told the resident she needed help.

“The Garner Police Department is thankful these victims were recovered safely,” the release said. “We appreciate the support of our community as we work tirelessly to arrest the suspects responsible and uncover the motive behind this crime.”

The Garner Police Department is continuing its investigation with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the State Bureau of Investigation.

Anyone with information should call the Garner Police Department at 919-772-8810 or 911.
