Police have charged a teen with killing a 13-year-old on Friday night after an apparent verbal dispute ended with someone firing a gun.

Malik Armein Jones, 19, was charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. Jones is accused of shooting Keyshawn Tyrell Gregory outside a home on Beauty Avenue east of downtown.

Two other teens, Jamal Christopher Howie, 19, and Jonathan Dejesus Chavez, 18, have been charged with one count each of accessory after the fact of murder.

An arrest warrant said police believe Chavez supplied Jones with the gun and helped hide it later.

Another warrant said detectives believe Howie helped Jones flee and elude police.

All were arrested Monday. Jones was being held without bail and Chavez on $2 million bail.

Howie was being held on $2,250,000 because of additional charges of illegally having the drug alprazolam and using a white Honda Pilot to keep and sell it.

All were due in court Tuesday.

The shooting happened sometime before 9:40 p.m. Friday. Police say Keyshawn was one of three people in a car on Beauty Avenue when words were exchanged between one of the car’s occupants and people outside a home at 1401 Beauty. Someone outside the home fired at the car, hitting Keyshawn.

Following a call about the shooting, police found the car with Keyshawn inside near the intersection of East Jones and North State streets. He was pronounced dead there.

Police say the two groups involved in the shooting knew each other and that it was not a random act.
