Teen killed, man injured in Durham shooting

GoFundMe

Two people were shot — one fatally — in Durham Wednesday night, police said.

Police said a 17-year-old and an adult male were shot on the 100 block of Sherwood Drive.

The adult was brought to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police later learned the teen had been brought by private vehicle to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Media outlets reported the teen was Dominic Chappell, a recent graduate of Lakeview School, and that neighbors gathered to remember him the next day.

“Dominic truly was a light in this world, and we feel incredibly lucky to have shared his laughter and love. He had such a bright future ahead of him, and it hurts that he won’t be there to fulfill all of his dreams,” Ciara Chappell said in a GoFundMe online fundraiser to help the family pay for funeral expenses.

Police released no other details about the shooting.

Sherwood Drive is part of an apartment complex off Morreene Road, which intersects with Erwin Road.
