Raleigh police responded to a fatal motorcycle crash on Yonkers Road late Saturday.

A motorcyclist was hit and killed at a Raleigh intersection late Saturday, and a woman faces several charges after she turned in front him.

Police say Cynthia Lucas was driving a Nissan Altima south on Yonkers Road and had made a left turn onto the ramp for eastbound Interstate 440 when she collided with a Harley Davidson ridden by Lewyn Stewart Jr. shortly after 11 p.m.

Stewart, 55, was riding north on Yonkers Road and had the right of way, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

Lucas, 41, told officers she did not see the motorcycle. Police charged her with failure to yield the right of way, unsafe movement and misdemeanor death by vehicle.

Lucas and a passenger in the Altima were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to police.

Motorcyclists account for fewer than 3% of people injured in motor vehicle crashes in North Carolina but were nearly 12% of those killed in crashes in 2023, the last year for which the Division of Motor Vehicles has complete data.
