A Raleigh man has died after a Wednesday night shooting at a Days Inn hotel with an employee who acted in self-defense, police said.

Police said they responded Wednesday at 10:25 p.m. to a trespassing call at the hotel on 6619 Glenwood Ave.

When they arrived, they found Byron Bracey, 35, with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said Thursday.

The shooting remains under investigation, but police say it‘s been ruled an act of self-defense after consultation with the Wake County District Attorney’s office. No charges have been filed.

Police have not named the hotel employee.
