A North Carolina man accused of assaulting two transgender women at an LGBTQ nightclub in Raleigh has been charged in that incident and in another in which he allegedly spat in a state trooper’s face, arrest warrants state.

Derron Corbitt, of Jacksonville, was charged with misdemeanor sexual battery and misdemeanor simple affray after two trans women said they were assaulted at Legends, a club on Hargett Street in downtown Raleigh on Aug. 17.

Poison, a trans woman and drag performer, shared her story on social media, stating that she and a friend, Lotus Lolita, were physically and sexually assaulted at the club.

The News & Observer is referring to Poison and Lotus Lolita by their stage names at their request. The newspaper does not normally publish the names of people who say they have been sexually assaulted.

His arrest warrant alleges Corbitt “slapped the butt” of one of the women three times and threw alcohol from a bottle at the other, leading to punches and slaps by both parties.

Poison also has been charged with simple affray, typically defined as a fight between two or more people in a public place that causes fear in others, The N&O previously reported.

Incident with state trooper

Corbitt, 43, was arrested on Saturday in Onslow County after being charged with misdemeanor driving while impaired, misdemeanor driving while license revoked for impaired driving, misdemeanor reckless driving to endanger, misdemeanor simple assault, misdemeanor resisting a public officer and misdemeanor assault of a government official and failure to maintain lane control.

Arrest warrants state that Corbitt was swerving between two lanes, resisted getting into a patrol vehicle, and spat on a North Carolina State Highway Patrol officer. He reportedly had unsteady balance, slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and refused to take a breathalyzer test. This was his second DWI charge in less than a year.

He was released from custody on a $5,000 secured bond.
