Officers were called to the 6700 block of McCrimmon Parkway, near Panther Creek High School, just after 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release.

Alan Wolf, a spokesperson for UNC Health, said a visitor was shot in the parking lot of the UNC Health Panther Creek Medical Office Building.

The victim and suspected shooter knew each other and got in an argument in the parking lot before the shooting, according to the release. At some point, “both men had a handgun in their possession,” police said Wednesday.

A man taken to the hospital with a single gunshot wound remained in stable condition Wednesday afternoon, though investigators had not yet been able to speak with him.

Police are working with the Wake County District Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be filed, according to the release.

Officials declined to release the men’s names Wednesday.
