Man dead after Durham shooting on Capps Street
A man was shot and killed in Durham on Tuesday morning, police said.
Officers responded to a report of gunshots at 9:43 a.m. in the 1900 block of Capps Street and found 39-year-old Antonio Devon McDonald of Durham with gunshot wounds, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A suspect was detained Tuesday afternoon, but police had not announced any arrests as of Wednesday morning.
Capps Street is off South Alston Avenue, south of the Durham Freeway in eastern Durham.
As of Sept. 20, 24 people have been fatally shot in Durham this year, according to Durham’s weekly shootings data. That was slightly up from 23 people who were fatally shot by Sept. 20, 2024, and down from 29 fatalities in 2023.
All told shootings with injuries are down this year, with 125 people shot through June 20, compared to 166 and 141 in each of the previous two years
