20-year-old man found shot to death in East Durham Tuesday night, police say
The Durham Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting of a young man in East Durham late Tuesday night.
At 11:56 p.m., officers responded to a report of gunshots in the 1500 block of Lathrop Street, a block from Holloway Street, and found 20-year-old Tykeon Holloway, 20, of Durham with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not released any information about a suspect, possible motive or other details as of Wednesday morning.
Despite Tuesday’s homicide, shootings with injuries are sharply down this year, compared to the previous two years.
- As of Saturday, 127 people had been shot in Durham this year, down from 168 and 146 by the same time during each of the previous two years, according to police statistics.
- Twenty-five of the people shot this year had been killed, which is one more than last year (24). In 2023, 30 people had been fatally shot by the same time.
