A 28-year-old man is dead and his father is charged with murder after a shooting Wednesday night at a home in Zebulon, police said.

A person called 911 just before 6:30 p.m. to report an assault in the 2100 block of Taramar Lane in the eastern Wake County town, according to a news release.

“The caller said that there was ‘serious’ bleeding, and the offender was still inside of the residence,” the release stated.

Police officers approached the door when a German shepherd dog ran aggressively toward them, the release stated. The officers had to shoot the dog to enter the home, it stated.

Police attempted lifesaving measures until Wake County Emergency Medical Services arrived and declared the man dead.

Police arrested Andrew Torry, 59, and charged him with felony murder in the shooting death of 28-year-old Tristan Torry. Police did not say how the men were related, but online records and an obituary for another family member indicate they were father and son.

Andrew Torry is being held at the Wake County Detention Center without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday afternoon.

The Zebulon Fire Department, Wake County Sheriff’s Office, Wendell Police Department, Rolesville Police Department, Wake County Emergency Medical Services and Wake County Animal Control Unit assisted Zebulon police.

“A loss of life is always a tragedy, and we ask that you please keep the families involved in this tragic event in your prayers,” the Zebulon Police Department said in the release.
