Man, 26, charged with murder after shooting in Brier Creek area, Raleigh police say

Raleigh police have charged a 26-year-old man with murder in the death of another 26-year-old Tuesday.

Raleigh police charged a 26-year-old man with murder in the death of a 26-year-old coworker Tuesday in the Brier Creek area.

Damouri Jonta Woods of Roxboro is accused of killing Darieen Marquise Hewett, the Raleigh Police Department said in a news release early Wednesday morning.

He is being held in jail without bail and had a court appearance Wednesday afternoon at which he was appointed an attorney.

The men worked at Onward Safety Solutions, a company that manages traffic in construction zones, according to ABC11, The News & Observer’s newsgathering partner. Police told WRAL the shooting stemmed from an argument.

Officers responded to the shooting at the business on Mount Herman Road around 5 p.m. Tuesday and found Hewett wounded, according to the news release. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.
