Police have identified a man who was fatally shot in East Durham on Wednesday as Lawrence Hunt Jr., 23, of Durham.

Officers responded to the shooting near Raynor Street and North Miami Boulevard at 10:48 a.m., police said in a statement. Hunt was pronounced dead at the scene.

No suspects were in custody as of Friday morning.

As of Dec. 27, a total of 170 people had been shot in Durham in 2025, 28 of them fatally, according to Durham Police Department statistics.

That was down from 218 people shot by the same time in 2024, when 33 of those shot died from their injuries, statistics show.
