A Durham man who police had sought for nearly a week after a fatal stabbing on the American Tobacco Trail was arrested Tuesday, records show.

LaRue Barbee, 46, is charged with first-degree murder in the March 9 killing of Chesleigh Lyons, 51, of Durham, police previously announced. Investigators asked for the public’s help finding him March 25 .

Lyons was found dead on the trail near Fayetteville Street Elementary School the afternoon of March 9. Police didn’t think the attack was random and said there was no danger to the general public.

Barbee recently finished a post-release sentence in September on a common law robbery conviction in Durham County, state records show. He’s been convicted at least 12 times in North Carolina, including on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and communicating threats.

Barbee remained in the Durham County jail without bail as of Wednesday morning.
