The father of a baby who died in 2024 was arrested on a murder charge Tuesday, according to the Wake County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies received a report of a local hospital admitting an injured baby on Oct. 28, 2024, the Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday. The baby died from her injuries four days later.

The Sheriff’s Office kept investigating and, after a discussion with the Wake County District Attorney’s Office, brought a murder charge earlier in April against the baby’s father, Christopher Gonzales, 25.

He was arrested Tuesday and is in custody at the Wake County Detention Center.

“On behalf of the entire agency, we extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the victim’s family and all impacted,” Wake County Sheriff Willie Rowe said. “I want to thank the WCSO investigators who continued to work this case to provide answers and make way for justice for even the youngest victims in our community.”
