Christopher Gonzales, 25, of Raleigh, is accused of murder in connection with the 2024 death of the baby, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday evening.

The wife of a man accused of killing his baby wrote in a Facebook post Wednesday that the death was “a tragic accident” and that she will stand by her husband.

Christopher Gonzales, 25, of Raleigh, is accused of murder in connection with the 2024 death of the baby, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday evening. The Sheriff’s Office said it has been investigating the case since the death in November 2024.

In a public Facebook post, Gonzales’ wife, Selena Gonzales, called their baby’s death an accident but did not go into details about what happened.

“But I also need people to understand who my husband truly is,” Selena Gonzales wrote. “He is a devoted husband, a loving provider, and someone who has always put his family first. He is a protector by nature, and that didn’t start at home — he served his country proudly as a veteran, carrying values of duty, honor, and sacrifice that have always guided his life.”

Selena Gonzales wrote that she’ll continue to support her husband as he navigates his case and asked for “understanding, compassion, and space as the truth continues to come to light.”

At Christopher Gonzales’ first court appearance Wednesday, a Wake County assistant district attorney asked for Gonzales to be held without bail, while his public defender declined to be heard on the matter. District Court Judge Sam Hamadani ordered that Gonzales continue to be held without bail.

Selena Gonzales was present at her husband’s first appearance but declined to speak to reporters outside the courtroom.
