Roger Rudd, 49, has been charged with taking $16,512 from an elderly Raleigh resident for construction work and then never doing some of the work and doing a shoddy job of the rest.

Detectives arrested Rudd at a convenience store at Millbrook Road and Millbrook Green Drive on Thursday morning, records showed.

An arrest warrant charging Rudd with abusing the trust of an elderly person said the work was done between July 1 and Oct. 4, 2014, at the home on Foxwood Drive.

Police said in the warrant that the work Rudd did perform was “at inferior levels and not in compliance with building codes.”

Rudd had an address in Garner, a commercial building at 2664 Timber Drive, when police began looking for him, and that address is on the arrest warrant.

When he was booked into the Wake County Detention Center, Rudd gave a home address of 4441 Six Forks Road in Raleigh, which also is a commercial building.

A magistrate set Rudd’s bail at $20,000, and he was held for a Friday court appearance.
