Fuquay-Varina man pleads guilty to 2nd-degree murder
A 23-year-old Fuquay-Varina man pleaded guilty on Monday in Wake County Superior Court to the second-degree murder of the mother of his child.
Logan Connail McLean was sentenced to 26 years in prison for fatally shooting Britny Jordan Puryear, who was 22 in November 2014 when she was shot in the head.
Puryear’s parents both spoke before the sentencing by Judge A. Graham Shirley II. Puryear and McLean had been in a relationship for several years before her death, but it had grown increasingly rocky before the shooting.
Puryear grew up in Willow Spring. She attended Willow Spring Elementary, Fuquay-Varina Middle and Fuquay-Varina High schools. She was a good student and standout on the athletic field, where she played on soccer and softball teams, according to her family.
Puryear’s father has said in previous interviews that he did not have a “good vibe” when his daughter started dating McLean. It was only after her death that Puryear’s parents realized the extent of domestic violence she had suffered.
At the time of her death, Puryear worked at Jersey Mike’s in Fuquay-Varina and was trying to be a good mom to the son that her parents now are raising.
