Mandy Locke, 37, joined The N&O in 2004. A graduate of the University of Virginia, she has reported extensively on law enforcement and labor issues.
In 2011, she shared the Michael Kelly award for courage in journalism with fellow investigative team reporter Joseph Neff for their reporting on the State Bureau of Investigation. Her reporting on labor issues won a Gerald Loeb Award for business reporting in 2013. Locke also teaches news writing at UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Media and Journalism.
Travis Long, 38, is a staff photojournalist with more than 17 years of daily newspaper experience, including more than 12 years at The News & Observer.
Long’s photographs and video work have garnered dozens of state, national and international awards, including recognition from the Casey Journalism Center for Children and Families, Society for News Design, National Press Photographers Association and several state press associations.
