Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools will have several bus routes Friday morning without a driver for the second day in a row, the school district announced.

An ongoing bus shortage, coupled with COVID-19 cases and protocols, mean the school district is suspending five routes on Friday morning, the district said Thursday night.

Those routes are:

  • Bus 64: McDougle Elementary, Smith Middle, East Chapel Hill High
  • Bus 66: Carrboro Elementary, McDougle Middle, Chapel Hill High
  • Bus 103: Carrboro Elementary, McDougle Middle, Carrboro High
  • Bus 115: Seawell Elementary, McDougle Middle, Chapel Hill High
  • Bus 129: Glenwood Elementary, Carrboro High

Parents who need to assistance with transportation for their child should call 919-942-5045 beginning at 6:30 a.m.

“We will arrange to have a bus pick up your student as soon as one can be made available,” the school district said.

On Wednesday night, the school district announced similar guidelines for Thursday morning. The district says there are 11 routes that don’t have a permanent driver; don’t have a substitute available; or are complying with COVID-19 protocols.

“If we receive any additional ‘callouts’ on Friday morning, more routes may be affected, and notifications will be sent in the morning,” the district said.

On Wednesday night, the school district told parents to find alternative transportation options for routes 88, 103 and 129. Thursday morning, the district added routes 22, 64 and 132.
