“Law enforcement and WCPSS Security immediately responded and located a suspect on campus,” the school said on its website. “A search was conducted and no firearm was located. Our school returned to Code Green at 1:48 p.m.”
The school said dismissal will proceed on the regular schedule and carpool will follow normal procedures. After-school activities will continue as normal.
Rumors of an active shooter
Out of an abundance of caution, Broughton said it will have extra law enforcement and Wake County school security on campus Wednesday
Extra security had been on Broughton’s campus on Tuesday due to the student having the gun off campus on Monday.
Raleigh Police and Broughton worked to dispel rumors Tuesday that the lockdown was due to an active shooter.
“The RPD is currently responding to an incident at Broughton High School that was reported to be an active shooter,” Raleigh Police posted on X, previously called Twitter. “There is no active shooter. The school remains on lockdown while police investigate. All students are safe. Parents should not go to the school.”
The school acknowledged the stress the last two days has put on everyone.
“We are proud of the manner in which our staff and students responded to the lockdown,” the school said. “We are also grateful to law enforcement and our security team for their swift response.
“We understand that lockdowns are stressful for students, staff and families, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation. Support is available for any student or staff member who needs additional assistance following this event.”
