Dozens of Wake County schools will open on a two-hour delay on Tuesday due to concerns regarding cold temperatures affecting heat inside the buildings.

The Wake County school system announced that the two-hour delayed opening on Tuesday will allow them to assess building conditions as an Arctic blast is expect to arrive. The delayed opening doesn’t impact traditional-calendar schools, which already had Tuesday off as a teacher workday.

The two-hour delay will affect tens of thousands of Wake County students who attend multi-track year-round schools, modified-calendar schools and early colleges.

The two-hour delay means buses will arrive two hours later than their normal time. Parents should arrive at school to drop off their students two hours later than the normal time.

Breakfast may be served at the principal’s discretion.

All schools were closed Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Wake has had heating issues at a number of schools this winter.
