The Johnston County school system has named its bus driver of the year. She is Shannon Brock, who drives a morning bus route for Glendale-Kenly Elementary School, where she is also a kindergarten teacher assistant.
Brock began her career in the school system in August 1996 and began driving a bus shortly thereafter. She shows dedication to her job, with perfect attendance driving her bus since her first day behind the wheel.
Brock is known among her fellow bus drivers as the “bus cheerleader” for being willing to help whenever and wherever she can; she is the first to ask if she can cover an afternoon bus route.
Her colleagues said she greets all students with a smile every time they board her bus, communicates well with school administrators and pays close attention to details.
School administrators, fellow drivers and students alike said they hold a huge amount of respect for Brock.
Brock said she takes pride in being able to display the plaques and trophies she has received over the years. The awards are in her home on shelves her husband built.
