College student shot outside Costco messaged his attacker on sales app, NC police say

A North Carolina college student who was shot in a Costco parking lot messaged the person who attacked him, according to Durham police documents.

Officers responded to the wholesale store on North Pointe Drive at about 1:30 p.m. March 9 and found Ryan Ware had been shot, police said in a search warrant application.

Now, police hope to identify the person responsible by looking into data from LetGo, an app that allows people to buy and sell items, according to the document. Police say Ware and the suspected shooter used the app to send messages about a “potential sale.”

Ware, 24, is a student at Duke University’s divinity school and was in the hospital as of Wednesday, WRAL reported.

The Durham police case isn’t the only time the LetGo app has caught the attention of police this month.

In South Carolina, two men were arrested after Horry County police say they posted ads on LetGo and and robbed people, The Sun News reported Thursday.
