Amazon delivery driver caught on video throwing package, driving across Missouri yard

A Missouri man’s surveillance system caught video of an Amazon delivery person driving through his yard on Saturday after throwing a package on his porch.

Jason Spurgeon, who posted the video to Facebook, says he was changing the brakes on his truck when an Amazon Prime van arrived to deliver a package.

In the video, the driver can be seen walking up to Spurgeon’s Lone Jack home and tossing the package on his porch. After getting back in the van, the driver reverses off the driveway and into the middle of Spurgeon’s yard. Another angle shows the van cutting all the way across the yard and through a ditch before getting back up on the road.

As the van got back up on the pavement, Spurgeon says he ran up to the vehicle and yelled at the driver before the van ultimately took off, according to the Facebook post.

When Spurgeon reached out to Amazon, the company initially apologized for the “negative experience” promising to forward the complaint to the shipping department. Later, another representative from the company wrote to tell Spurgeon a $50 credit had been added to his Amazon account.

“I know no amount of money can make up for this poor experience,” the email said. “I hope you’ll accept this as both a gesture of good will and an apology for this poor experience.”

Spurgeon says he’s not trying to get anyone in trouble, only better training for drivers.

“I don’t want the kid to lose his job or anything, but I think they should be trained not to drive through people’s yards,” he told KSHB.

Thankfully, Spurgeon told McClatchy News, neither his delivery or yard was damaged.

“I don’t think there was any damage to my yard either but it was very unprofessional!” he said.

In a statement to McClatchy News, an Amazon spokesperson said the company expects packages to be handled carefully.

“This does not reflect the high standards we have for our delivery service partners and expect every package to be handled with care,” the statement says. “We have notified the right teams internally and are working with the customer to make this right.”

Lone Jack is roughly 30 miles southeast of Kansas City.
