The safety ropes have failed when it gets too cold. That’s why they’ve been recalled
Considering the frigid weather climbers can encounter, safety ropes should be all-weather equipment. That’s why DICK’S Sporting Goods recalled about 63,000 Field & Stream safety ropes.
The exact problem, as stated in the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice: “The ropes can fail when used in freezing conditions, posing fall and injury hazards.”
DICK’S knows this because it heard about an incident during which the ropes failed “in freezing weather, resulting in a concussion and knee injury.”
This covers Field & Stream Life Line, Linesman and Safety Ropes style No. HEH01299, HEH01882Z (a three-pack of HEH01299), or HEH01530. The style number is on a black and red label. They were sold at DICK’S Sporting Goods stores, Field & Stream store and Sportsman’s Warehouse stores.
Climbers with these ropes should return them to the store where they were bought. Those with a receipt will get a full refund. Those without a receipt will receive a store credit of the purchase price.
Those with questions who bought their ropes at DICK’S or Field & Stream can call 877-846-9997, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Eastern time. For Sportsman’s Warehouse customers, call 800-286-3076, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Eastern time, Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Eastern time, on Sundays.
