‘The Goldbergs’ actor calls accusations of sexual assault ‘horrific and false’
An actor on “The Goldbergs” responded Friday after four women accused him of sexual assault and misconduct.
Bryan Callen, who plays coach Rick Mellor on the ABC show, called the allegations against him “horrific and false.”
“Let me be very clear: I have never raped, forced myself upon any woman nor offered to trade stage time for sex. EVER,” he wrote on Twitter.
“I will not allow the cancel culture to subvert what I know and as importantly, what these woman know, is the truth.”
Four women came forward to the Los Angeles Times detailing alleged abuse from Callen. Accusations include accounts of rape, verbal and physical abuse, and trading favors for sex.
The alleged behavior goes back at least 20 years, the Times reported.
Callen will not appear in Season 8 of “The Goldbergs,” according to Variety, but his absence is for plot reasons.
Amy Schumer is among the celebrities who have applauded the women who came forward.
“You are saving the women who may have come after you,” the comedian wrote. “And to the comics who are annoyed with me for standing with these ladies, what are you so afraid of?”
Callen said on Twitter he will further address the allegations during his podcast, The Fighter and the Kid, Saturday night.
