14-year-old dies after he’s found shot in back of SUV at house party, Georgia cops say
Officials in Georgia told local news outlets that a 14-year-old has died after being shot during a house party Sunday.
Deputies responded to a call about a “person shot” on Victoria Road in Cherokee County just before 1:20 a.m., according to a news release from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. When they arrived, the sheriff’s office said people were driving or running away from the home, where a “large party” was being held.
Multiple shots had been fired at the home during the party, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies secured the home and found a 14-year-old in the back of an SUV with a gunshot wound in his torso, the sheriff’s office said. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Deputies told local outlets CBS46, FOX5 and WSBTV on Sunday that the 14-year-old died at the hospital.
A 19-year-old later showed up at a hospital with gun shot wounds to his hand and elbow, the sheriff’s office said. He was treated and has since been released.
“Detectives are currently processing the crime scene,” the sheriff’s office said. “Several witnesses were interviewed at the scene but very limited information was obtained. No suspect(s) have been identified at this time. Investigators are asking witnesses who fled the scene or ones who were interviewed but have additional information please call 678-493-4080.”
No other information about the incident had been released as of late Sunday morning.
Cherokee County is about 40 miles north of Atlanta.
