A woman is dead after a tree branch came crashing down on top of her during a hike in Ohio, state wildlife officials said.

The hiker was walking on a trail through Mohican State Park around 3 p.m. Sunday when the branch struck her, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources said in a statement.

Mohican State Park itself spans 1,100 acres and neighbors another 4,500 acres of state-owned forest, according to the park’s Facebook page.

Department officers and the Ashland County coroner responded, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the statement.

The coroner has identified the woman as 57-year-old Shelley Miller, the Ashland Times Gazette reported.

The department is investigating the incident.

“ODNR reminds people while hiking to stay on the trail and follow park safety instructions,” officials said.
