Hunter who went missing scouting for hunting spots found dead, Louisiana officials say
Former coach and principal Scott Stone was found dead on Friday, Dec. 17, in the Ouachita River in the Upper Ouachita National Wildlife Refuge, Louisiana officials told media outlets.
He was reported missing Dec. 16 after he left to scout a location for duck hunting in the refuge, according to KTVE 10.
The refuge is split between 18 miles of the Ouachita River, which is where authorities found Stone’s truck, officials told news outlets.
Stone was found around 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 17 in the river, Lieutenant Wayne Parker with Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries told the Monroe News-Star. According to the publication, officials believed he fell from his boat.
Stone, 60, coached at West Monroe and Cedar Creek high schools, as well as previously serving as a principal of the Ouachita Parish Alternative Center, KNOE reported.
Rescue teams searched through the night and found his vehicle at 6:30 a.m. Friday, according to KNOE.
McClatchy News reached out the the Louisiana Wildlife and Fishery Department on Dec. 17 for comment and was awaiting a response.
Notices about Stone’s disappearance garnered hundreds of shares on Facebook, with community members sharing saying that they were praying for him and his family.
