Gaspard Ulliel, a 37-year-old French actor who was set to star in Marvel’s “Moon Knight” series, died after a skiing accident, according to AFP.

The French news agency said Ulliel was the victim of a skiing accident in France. He suffered major head trauma when he collided with another skier on Tuesday, Jan. 18, in the Alps, according to news outlet France Bleu.

His death comes two days after the trailer was released for “Moon Knight,” a Disney+ series that will debut March 30. Ulliel was cast as the character Midnight Man and will star opposite actors Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke.

Ulliel is also known for playing Hannibal Lecter in the 2007 film “Hannibal Rising.” Others may recognize him as the face of the Chanel fragrance Bleu de Chanel.

French Prime Minister French Jean Castex said Ulliel “grew up with cinema and cinema grew with him.”

Gaspard belonged to this new generation of actors who were making tomorrow’s French cinema,” said Thierry Fremaux, the director of the Cannes Film Festival, in a statement to Variety. “He knew how to select his roles and shaped his career which filled every promise.”
