A teacher was caught making racist remarks to an Asian couple in California, a TikTok video shows.

Now she has been fired from her job at a Christian school in Temecula, the school said. And her husband, a city worker for Coronado, has been placed on leave, according to a statement from the Coronado city manager.

The Asian couple was shopping in Newport Beach when they say the teacher and her husband began making anti-Asian comments about the two, according to an Instagram page that reshared the now deleted TikTok video.

In the Instagram post, the couple said the two made eye contact with them, then they began talking loudly about Chinese people spreading COVID-19.

The video shows the Asian couple following the teacher and husband into a parking garage, where the teacher is heard saying “I love that we are not in their country, right?” and “I love that we are not communism.”

As they reach their car, the couple asks them if they are talking to them and says they aren’t Chinese.

The husband responds with “maybe, could be.”

“America is a free country. Go back to China,” the teacher is heard saying as she gets into the passenger side of the car.

The teacher was fired from Linfield Christian School, according to a press release tweeted by the school on Jan. 31.

“The statements ... do not reflect the beliefs of Linfield, are inconsistent with Linfield’s mission statement and fail to meet the behavior Linfield expects employees to model for its students,” the school said in the release.

Her husband was placed on administrative leave, Coronado City Manager Tina Friend said in a statement.

Although he was not heard in the TikTok video making racist remarks, Friend said there are allegations that he made racist comments leading up to the video.

“Our City’s culture and values are core to who we are and that culture is based on professionalism, service and respect,” Friend wrote. “We take matters such as this extremely seriously and the City has zero tolerance for all forms of discrimination.”
