Driver trying to reverse instead plunges 40 feet into a ravine, Georgia police say
A driver was trying to reverse when her car ended up plunging 40 feet into a Georgia ravine, officials said.
The 58-year-old woman was trying to back up from a parking spot on Feb. 2 but instead had her car in drive, according to Sgt. Salvador Ortega, a spokesperson for the Sandy Springs Police Department.
“The vehicle drove forward, went over the curb, and traversed a metal fence,” Orgeta told McClatchy News in a email.
The car then landed 40 feet down in a ravine, trapping the driver. Photos from police and the Sandy Springs Fire Department show crews using ropes at the scene, near Glenridge Place and roughly 12 miles north of downtown Atlanta.
“First responders arrived to find the vehicle overturned and rescued the driver,” Ortega said. “The driver was taken to a nearby hospital just to get checked out (no obvious injuries).”
American Medical Response worked with firefighters at the scene, officials said.
