Stylist helps ‘save a life’ by checking on client who missed her appointment in Ohio

The client was taken to a hospital, and she is now recovering at home, officials say.

A stylist who checked in with one of her regular clients following a missed appointment may have saved her life, Ohio officials say.

When the woman didn’t show up to her “regularly scheduled appointment” at Impressions Styling Studio on Jan. 22, stylist Gina Fischione grew concerned, according to a post by the Streetsboro Fire Department.

“Instead of ignoring this and moving on with her day, Gina called and sent a text message to the elderly woman,” the fire department said. “Initially, the woman didn’t answer her phone and Gina didn’t get a reply text.”

Soon after, though, the client called her stylist back to say she injured herself falling down outside and could not get back up.

While waiting for an ambulance to arrive and help the client, officials say Fischione immediately got a blanket and drove to her client’s home a short drive from the salon.

Officials say the Fischione kept her client “warm and safe” until Streetsboro EMS showed up and took the woman to a hospital for treatment.

“All too often, we get caught up in our day-to-day routines,” the fire department said. “When something doesn’t go as planned, we may quickly move on to something else. Thankfully, Gina didn’t do that on January 22.”

In recognition of her actions that “helped to save a life,” Mayor Glenn Broska and Fire Chief Robert Reinholz will recognize Fischione with an official proclamation at the Streetsboro City Council Safety Committee meeting on Monday, Feb. 14.

“Such an amazing story,” Impressions Styling Studio said of its stylist. “You are such a wonderful person inside & out Aunt Gina Fischione love you so much!”

Impressions Styling Studio is in Streetsboro, about 30 miles southeast of Cleveland.
